3 Tips For Writing Sales Copy That Sells
One of the keys to success in internet marketing is getting traffic to your website. But that’s only the first step – you then need to convert those visitors into customers. And that’s why writing sales copy that sells is so important. Anybody can write and write but unless it is of interest to the readers what is the point?
You need to engage your visitors and get them interested in your product or service. There’s no point paying money to get people to your website to then see them clicking away after a few seconds. So here are 3 tips to help you with your copy writing.
1. Spend time getting to know your prospective customers. Visit forums related to your niche, take notes about the questions being asked and the subjects that are discussed. Understand the problems and frustrations that people face. What are their main fears?
Once you have this knowledge you can then start to craft your sales message. You should focus on the fact that you have solutions to their problems – so concentrate on the benefits you are offering them. By putting yourself in your customers’ shoes you are much more likely to write effective sales copy.
2. Be clear about what you want people to do. This could be to join a list, to click through to a particular page or to buy a product. Then write your copy with that aim in mind.
The last thing you want is to have mixed messages that confuse the reader. Remember that a confused mind is very likely to say no, so keep it simple and clear. A good rule of thumb is to have one call to action. You will be pleasantly surprised as to how effective this can be.
3. Cater for different types of readers. Some people simply scan a page, whilst others read every word. So a good approach, which satisfies both types, is to have headlines interspersed throughout the text. Make sure that they convey what the section is about, so that even if people don’t read everything they’ll still get the gist of your message.
Give some thought to the layout as well – there is nothing more off-putting than seeing a huge block of text. Short paragraphs are much better than one long paragraph. If you can include some meaningful visuals e.g. photos of your niche or graphs, that can be a great help as well.
